(1 year, 1 credit) Drawing and Painting is an intermediate art course which focuses on strengthening and honing drawing skills and artistic talent. The elements of art, principles of design, and all skills acquired in previous art courses will be reinforced. This first half of this course will emphasize various drawing techniques. Emphasis on drawing from observation will be placed throughout the year. Students will be encouraged to explore, investigate and produce works of art from nature, still life, art history and imagination. Materials will include pencil, charcoal, pen-and-ink, and colored pencil, among others. The second half of the year will emphasize various painting techniques and media. Media will include watercolors, acrylic paints, pen and ink and more. The exploration of color and its organizing principles will be taught. Students will be challenged to broaden the scope of their work to create original works of art.
